The IndigeDesignLabs team are paying tribute to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders throughout Cairns by creating an exhibition of portraits of these esteemed individuals. We are also interested in taking photographs of married couples, and as long as one of them are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

These portraits will be accompanied by an explainer about the person in the portrait and will be animated with a social media augmented reality feature to enhance the visual display.

We are asking of families of elders throughout Cairns to participate in the project by bringing their family member to have their portrait taken by the team. Discussions have also been held with Aged Care providers and stakeholders to determine how portraits of elders can be taken in their facilities.

These portraits of elders will be provided to families free of charge and can be used by participating Aged Care Facilities to promote their services. No image will be sold or used for commercial purposes.

After the portrait photoshoot, families will be given the option of whether they would like the portrait used for the public exhibition. All photographs will be provided back to families, regardless of whether they are displayed at the exhibition or not.

The exhibition will at the Courthouse Gallery between the 20 January and March 2024. The promotion of the exhibition will be delivered across social media and media outlets locally in the leadup to the the event opening and launch, all participating support organisations will be acknowledged in event credit or signage and promotion items.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or would like to support the project. If you have an elder in mind please fill-in the form and we will give you call for a yarn to setup a photo session.
